Following a military coup in her hometown, Aiia is forced to escape from the home of her father, the acting prime minister.
Seeking refuge in the jungle to escape imprisonment or worse, trains with escaped child soldiers she encounters deep in the forest.
After 2years of intensive training, she emerges as a hardened and powerful force, much different from the Aiia she once was.

Wandering the mountains in search of the meaning of life, Xan meets his fate as he is struck by lightning, and falls through a crack in the Earth. Kidnapped in her infancy from Columbia by government scientists, Laila is raised in a genetic modification lab in the Nevada Desert. Following an unexplained power failure, a malfunctioning of the lab equipment caused a genetic defect, causing her DNA to fuse with that of a raven. Physically and mentally altered through years of experimentation and emotional torture, she escapes during the blackout, evolved as Cuerva.
